The time for the residency open call has rolled around once again.
For its fourth consecutive year, Future Observatory is excited to share the open call for our programme, Design Researchers in Residence.
The residency supports thinkers at the start of their careers to spend a year developing a new research project in response to a theme, and this year that’s Artificial.
Taking on a cohort of four design researchers from a range of design disciplines, the residency is a unique opportunity to develop a project over a nine-month period. Future Observatory sets researchers up in the Residency Studio, a dedicated space at the museum for them to conduct their research. In June, this studio space is transformed into an exhibition space for the residents to showcase their projects to a wide range of audiences. Along with the display, the resident’s work is published in an accompanying catalogue, and they also have a chance to do some public programming around their project.
Each resident is provided with a commissioning budget of £6,000, which goes directly towards producing the work that will be presented at the end of the residency. A bursary of £11,400 is also offered to support the development of their career and to fund their practice.
